I’ve been talking about my super secret Mom Cave project for a while now. We don’t have an extra room so I decided to turn my desk into a Mom Cave.
Here are the inspiration pieces I blogged about…

| Wrapping Paper from Paper Twist |
My desk is between the kitchen and family room. It is my command center.
Here is the Before
The original desk is Ballard Designs from several years ago. The outlet (in Atlanta) has great pieces that are only slightly damaged.
I liked my desk but I wanted a place to hide my coupons, bills, etc. Remember my trip to Ikea? Well, I was shopping for 2 Akurum cabinets so that I could do just that.
I’ll blog later about putting together the cabinets.
My sister & I secured the hutch to the wall (studs) with screws. The Ikea cabinets hold a TON of weight luckily.
I went to HomeGoods for accessories & got almost everything from the clearance aisle. Spray paint is the name of the game! With the exception of the mirror all items were $3- $7.
My finds (before)
AND FOR THE REVEAL

My laptop even hides in the middle drawer when not in use. We’ll see how often that happens.
| The mess I made while styling the hutch – it takes a long time to get things just right! |
The candle holder is an upside down Ikea bucket with a plate on top.
I feel like my desk is a true Mom Cave now. Functional & attractive = inspiration for me.
Stay tuned this week for details on my desk turned Mom Cave. I couldn’t fit all the info in 200 words.
Special thanks to my sister for all of her help! Luckily she is a math whiz since I’m not.

Cute! Great idea, love it. Ah, Ikea, they have a solution for everything! Liz @ Desiging Domesticity
Wow- the creativity involved in this project…where to start to comment.
Sensational job!
Actually I have an antique dresser and hutch combination that would work well in something like this. I never considered bolting the top section to the wall. I am going to consider the possibilities differently now. Thanks.
Good luck with the contest and enjoy your space.
What a great, clever idea! You should get a prize–you’ve done a great job of making this space super-functional as well as pretty. Good for you!

Beautiful! I love that wrapping paper wall paper effect. How did you end up affixing it to your cabinet back? I’ve been trying different techniques and haven’t found a truly wrinkle-less approach yet.
Thanks for sharing!
