Dear Friends,
My friend Abby has just completed a major kitchen transformation. I think I am as excited about it as she is. I may have embraced my dark cabinets, but there is nothing I like better than a white kitchen. Except for maybe gray or green – sigh. Painted cabinets are not in my future so I need to curb the wistfulness. But that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a little eye candy.

The structural changes include a wall of beadboard and granite countertops which were installed prior to the cabinet overhaul. Everything else was accomplished with paint. An experienced contractor did the work.
The original colors were from the previous owner. Abby’s style is very Pottery Barn. I love her taste and the Nantucket Gray by Benjamin Moore is a beautiful choice in the kitchen and family room. The kitchen is two shades lighter; the home is so open that they wanted to keep it uniform but add a bit of transition between the two areas.
The cabinets are painted a white that is color matched to an Ikea bookshelf in the family room. It is the perfect white in my opinion. Creamier than stark white but without appearing ivory. I have the same color on my china cabinet.
Abby runs an etsy shop filled with handmade boutique-worthy items. Her eye for detail is obvious when you see her work and it extends to her home as well.

What a change! It just goes to show what a little paint will do. Okay, maybe those gorgeous countertops help a little too.
Good eye! Those aren’t the same countertop in the before & after. Just had to call my friend because I’ve always known her to have granite. They replaced them right after moving in, well before the cabinet re-do.
