Genius Desk Ideas for a Non-Home-Office

Dear Friends,

I’m a browsing junkie when it comes to inspiration photos.  With my recent desk plan, I thought I’d look for fun ideas.  There are a ton of home office spaces, but I was looking for workspaces integrated into the home rather than a dedicated room.  I only have a corner to work with.

It turns out there are all kinds of ways to add a desk into the landscape!

My favorite was the second photo.  I’m a sucker for well-executed neutrals.   I love the idea of a desk in a family space.  I’m not sure I’d use one in the bedroom though.  I definitely used to use my desk in the kitchen at our last two homes.
Do you have a dedicated office space?  Or do you just have a corner somewhere?  I’m excited to have my own little spot to work!

  1. my favorite is the second one too. love the wood desk. could you put the desk behind the sofa like in the photo or no room for it there? we have our desk in our big family room and there is a built in desk in the kitchen that do not get used as a desk.

    • I know – that second one is so pretty. Unfortunately, the behind the couch option won’t work because of the proximity to the kitchen bar. It would just create too much of a barrier which was pretty much the problem with the sofa table. I love that idea though!!

  2. Erin, I’m confident that whatever you choose for your desk will be just perfect. I just wanted to offer a little advice from the practical side. Be sure that your desk is the correct height for you, ergonomically-speaking, when you are seated and working on your laptop. (Your forearms should be close to perpendicular to the floor. A regular writing desk is not the correct height.) Also, your desk chair should be comfortable and supportive to your back, and the height should be adjustable. You can find plenty of info online about this. As the old saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. I look forward to seeing the choices you make!

    • Good point, Dianne! Although sometimes I sit on a ball so I can strengthen my core while I work. I like multi-tasking. 🙂 I’ll have to look at height more carefully. I do really hope to sit there so you bring up a great point. Thank you for commenting.

  3. What’s up, after reading this remarkable piece of writing i am also happy
to share my experience here with colleagues.
