China Cabinet Reveal

Dear Friends,
My first project of 2012 is complete!  I hinted at it earlier this week when I mentioned “adding some white” to our dark cabinets.  As you know, I decided not to paint the cherry kitchen; however, I decided to add to it instead by extending the cabinets to the breakfast room. I craved white cabinets somewhere and it hit me that I could increase our storage and get my white without an overhaul.

The cabinets are Akurum from Ikea with Stat doors.  I had previous experience installing cabinets at our old house so it was a pretty easy makeover.  It took me one day to shop, one day to put together the cabinets, and one day to install.  When, I say “day” I mean nap-time & night-time primarily.   I do have a post planned with the step-by-step version.  Mr. C assisted with the install so it was fun to work on something together!  I’d like to add crown moulding but that is another project for another day.

The china cabinet is on the same wall as the kitchen cabinets but it actually resides in the breakfast area.  I’ll try to get a picture of the whole wall – cherry cabinets, door, and china cabinet so you can see the contrast.  Unfortunately, when I took the photos my kitchen was in total disarray.  I have no problem showing you my mess but I’d hate to have my messy kitchen pinterested.  Wouldn’t want it to be a permanent fixture in the pinterestsphere!

OH, and that yellow color is going, going, GONE.  I mean as soon as I can decide on a swatch.  I’m going blonde gray but I’m not sure what shade tickles my fancy.   Stay tuned for a step-by-step on the cabinet and a full view of the wall.

Cheers!  This house is finally starting to feel like mine after almost six months!  🙂

I’m attending blog parties for this project.  Can’t wait to link-up!

  4. That looks really good! I bet it adds so much storage!

  5. Looks great, Erin! I bet you are loving the extra storage! I painted my cherry kitchen Ben Moore’s Revere Pewter. Gray was tricky with my cherry cabinets. I was glad to get rid of the yellow. Now I just need to pick another greige for my yellow family room, foyer and hallways. I don’t blame you about not wanting a messy photo of yours to end up on Pinterest. I just noticed today that someone pinned a before photo of mine of my daughter’s messy armoire. UGH!
