Adding Whimsy to the Foyer

*Edited to add:  You can find a more recent foyer update with sources here.

Dear Friends,
I’ve noticed over the last year that our current house has more of a formal feel than any house we have ever lived in.  Mr. C & I lean toward casual elegance at best {ha} but I’d like to think our decor has a fun side.  We embrace humor any way we can around here.

I think it is the tall ceilings, massive doors, and dark mouldings that give that stuffy air every now and then.

Well, if we were the tiniest bit fancy before you can throw it out the window now.   I got my bit of whimsy for Christmas and I couldn’t be happier.

I spotted this rug and Mr. C took note.  On Christmas morning it was waiting for me.
This man knows the way to my heart.  Other than food of course.
{There might have been a hint here & there}.

I’m enjoying this spot and the juxtaposition of everything.  The kids also love it.  There has been a lot of fun since this rug arrived.  Who knew there were so many ways to play hopscotch?  There is the traditional method.  The dance method.  The backward hopscotch.   We are cool like that.

Some of you will call me crazy.  I’m okay with that because it makes me smile.

  1. Love it, Erin! Life is too short to not have a bit of whimsy now and then. 🙂

  2. That’s AWESOME!!!

  3. What a fun addition! I bet everyone that comes and goes will hopscotch to the door. 🙂

I got a fairy door for Christmas. That is very different for me but the colors were so cute I just had to ask for it.

  4. Super fun, I have never seen anything like that, very cool!

    xoxo, Tanya

    • Thanks, Pam! The color is Silver Sage by Restoration Hardware. I have used it in two houses now and really like it. I had it color matched at Sherwin Williams. Hope that helps! 🙂

  14. Love this! What wallpaper is this? I would like to find it for our foyer.

  15. I’ll right away grasp your rss as I can’t find your email subscription link or newsletter service. Do you’ve any? Kindly let me know so that I may just subscribe. Thanks.
